BIO

Muzik 4 machines is a minimal electro house act from Montreal, Canada.

The project was started in 1991 by TBA03 with the goal of making music to listen for himself.  the project was put on hold a few years then in 2007, he resumed where he left with gigs and events outside and in clubs, small venues and bars.

It all began with a Portastudio, a guitar and a TR-707 drum machine, early compositions were a mix between early house and grunge music, mixing the 4 on the floor rhythm with loud fuzz guitar. As the technology evolved, so did the Project; recruiting performers and signers and buying, finding or building new gadgets and sound mangling devices. When computer became powerful enough to generate and process sound, a new page of M4M history started.

The Music also evolved from simple riffs over a steady beat to more complex and mysterious texture in some works and at the same time exploded into Rave party music in others. They got some good charts apparition online and even sold Cd's worldwide on the then underground mp3.com website that since closed.

Over the years, different styles were explored as the personel changed (house, techno, drum and bass, rock, noise rock, pop, trance, and some unclassifiable sounds). Guests including Luke, MisterW, YUL and DP participated to different Live events and recordings (all available online).

Back to minimal electro house, Muzik 4 Machines is now producing new material, performing it live, and distributing it via bit torrent and youtube.

Muzik 4 Machines - In The A** (Instrumental)

Song from the old studio, it has lyrics, just search on torrent sites, but it's so badly performed that i used the instrumental for this timelapse of dismantling and re building Pi Studio

Expect new clips as soon as I can figure out the problem with the camera and G4

Muzik 4 Machines Live @ Festival Eureka

http://www.youtube.com/user/eurekazik

i prepared 100 times too much for the gig we did, even bought a second loop sampler that remained unused, people just don't care as long as they can ruin the song by hitting the kaoss pads and kaossilator, one of the worst experience ever (kids with dirty hands touching my expensive gear and sticking it with sunscreen and ice cream, disgusting)

some parts when we play only me and Dj.Ool (violin) are pretty good, but as soon as someone from the public touches a machine, it's the crappiest thing you'll ever hear, so please don't comment on how it's out of key/out of beat as most of the uber crap you'll hear is 5 years old bashing on my kaossilator like if it was a toy

Instruments
Dj.Ool:
-Electric violin
-Boss harmonizer
-Ibanez tube screamer
-Boss sampler and delay
-Dod Volume
it then goes in the Kaoss Pad 2 and then in the mixer where it's fed to the Soundbite Pro (bass) and to the Kaoss Pad 3 (other parts)

TBA03:
-Korg Kaossilator into
-Korg Mini Kaoss pad(mini KP) then summed to mono into a samson guitar wireless then in the mixer where it goes to be sampled by the soundbite (drums and backbeat elements) and Kaoss pad 3(leads, pads)

-Korg Kaoss Pad 3: "lead" looping (parts that can be washed in delay, fx)
-Redsound SoundBite Pro: Backbeat/drums//bass looping
-Korg Kaoss Pad 2: filtering/delaying/mashing up the violin
-Korg Electribe SX (ESX1): mostly unused besides drum sounds (ie, the show is not pre programmed into the electribe, I use it to program live drum loops, trigger a couple of drum loops/synth sounds(that are then recorded to the soundbite/KP3))

-Motu Midi Mixer 7s: you'll probably never see it, t's built into the rack below the machines) controlled by:
-Behringer BCF-2000

The whole mix was then fed into a DBX MC6 compressor to the house PA (the videos are uncompressed, unmastered feed from the chain out of the mixer, the MP3s are mastered into a digital audio workstation(DAW).)

Muzik 4 Machines - Live @ Pi Studio March 20th 2008/Demo ESX

Muzik 4 Machines Presents: Demo Esx/Liive @ Pi Studio march 20th 2008
Simili Tarnce performed by machines for machines(may be suitable for humans too)
Ok, this is kind of a demo to show how simple it is to make a song with the ESX (the song is REALLY LAME, but it's a proof of concept song, put together from scratch in 19 minutes minus a phone call, and jammed on for 7 minutes)
The timecode at the top right is the real timecode from the tape, to show you I didnt take 3 hours to edit that bass, but still like 4 minutes of turning a know would be pretty boring, especially since it's silent

there is a buzz from one of the DBX that uses a behringer mixer PSU, and the patchbay is dying and crackling at some point.

Biography
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Muzik 4 machines is a band from Montreal, Canada, which produces electronic music with a grunge twist.

The band was formed in 1996 by TBA03 and was particularly active from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 to 2005, Tb concentrated on some solo works and third-party productions. As of late 2005, the band officially decided to get back together and prepare some new material.

It started as a 1 man project, equipped with a Portastudio, a guitar and a TR-707 drum machine, early compositions were a mix between early house and grunge music, mixing the 4 on the floor rhythm with loud fuzz guitar. As the technology evolved, so did the Project; recruiting performers and signers and buying, finding or building new gadgets and sound mangling devices. Computers were a revolution in the course of things, starting with trackers, evolving towards MIDI sequencers and then full blown audio sequencing.

The Music also evolved from simple riffs over a steady beat to more complex and mysterious texture in some works and at the same time exploded into full blown (at the time) modern Rave party music in others. The band got some good hits and even sold Cd's worldwide on the then underground mp3.com website that since closed.

Over the years, different styles were explored as the personel changed (house music, techno, drum and bass, rock, noise rock, pop, trance, urban music and some unclassifiable sounds). Performers including Luke, MisterW, YUL and DP participated to different Live events and special recordings (all available online).

Back to full housy-electro-Rock&noise lately, the band producing new material and making some videos.

Aux Gouvernements

direct from here

the new mix, other link includes hi and lo fi versions, the 2 original mixes (1995 and 1998) and a somewhat pitched down version of the new mix to bring it back to original speed as a 244 is NOT twice as fast, only 93%

Full album including 1995 mixes

This song was retrieved (or should I say salvaged) form a tascam 244 4 track master and transfered to Logic (2 track forward and 2 backwards) pitched up one octave (which, i learrnt, is too much, i needed 10 semitones and 42 cents) and re synchronized them (see album art) re amped the guitars, tuned the vocal, doubled the 707 drums with acoustic sounds, created a bass track from the clean guitar and cleaned up the structure a bit(removed the lame drum fills, deleted the whacky ugly solo)

I also tempted a restoration of the original 2 mixes which were on another cassette un played for 10 years so the sound had lost a lot of highs during the de noising process, and the 1998 mix missed almost all the left channel up until the solo, which I tried to fix in the mastering
